Salsa is a SUPER FOOD!!!

I’ve been asked a million times about how to “dress up” food to make it taste better.  Let’s face it, the main reason most people don’t stick to a diet is because it becomes boring.  Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box and try to mix up your food. Salsa is one the easier and cheapest way to jazz up your food.  See below an article about the benefits.  It will surprise you just how healthy it really is.  You can add it to anything, just think of it like ketchup  or any other condiments.  Eggs, meat, other veggies, salads the sky’s the limit.  If you like then that’s all that matters.  Remember to read your labels to make sure exactly what your getting.

KISS fact:  We eat with our eyes visually before we even put anything into our month.  Salsa is a quick way to dress up a plain piece of chicken and take it to the next level.

Salsa is the Spanish term for “sauce” and has come to denote a light, tomato based sauce that many of us meet with a corn chip while watching televised sporting events. It’s a nutrition powerhouse to boot!

Salsa is usually made of:

  1. tomatoes – cooked or raw

  2. chili peppers

  3. onion

  4. spices.

  5. What’s not to love? Here are 4 nutrition highlights:

  6. Low in calories– a 2 tablespoon serving of salsa has just 10 calories. Go ahead and double or even triple your portion size without having to fret over the calories.

  7. Rich in Lycopenes– these are a type of antioxidant found in tomatoes, and even more so in cooked tomatoes. Although homemade salsa recipes are usually made with fresh tomatoes, the jarred stuff you buy in the supermarket is always cooked.

  8. No unhealthy fats– in fact, no fats at all!

  9. Healthy spices– depending on the salsa you buy, you may encounter chilis, cumin, cilantro, and other herbs and spices.
